Manage the use of time and other resources to complete projects
Project Time Management
For every project I wrote a strategic brief for, I also created a schedule to keep track of due dates and when tasks needed to be completed in order to stay on track to complete the project on time. I organized these schedules by class each week because that is often when deliverables are due and when critiques are held. Under each week I include where I should be in terms of progress on any given task, if there is a critique in class that week, and list any deliverables that are due that day. The schedule also includes the activities or content that will be gone over in class, and if there’s anything I need to bring to class that week. This schedule demonstrates my skills in time management and using a schedule as a resource to complete projects. It helps me manage my use of time to make sure I am ready for each class and have everything I need for the final submission.
Tracking Process Work
As apart of my three-part conference campaign project in my Typography 4 course, I documented all my process work into an organized design process blog. The blog consists of posts for each stage of the project and the iterations I created throughout all three parts. The posts include images of my work, an explanation of the objective of my work, what was suggested during critiques, and the changes I made in my design from those suggestions. I explain why I made the changes and how they met the objectives of that part of the project. The design process blog demonstrates my skills in managing and organizing my process work.
Take responsibility for one’s own actions, decisions, and consequences
Meeting Deadlines
While working on a group project, I took responsibility for my own actions when managing a busy schedule and having to catch up last minute to meet a deadline. I was working on multiple assignments that week and did not have time to finish my portions of the project until the night before the presentation and the project was due. I met up with my group and explained our situation and we worked together to finish up the project until late that night. Since I still had some more work to do, I woke up early the morning it was due and pushed to make sure we were ready for the presentation and the submission. We met up in the morning to practice the presentation and submit our final project on time. I took responsibility for my actions and worked hard to avoid the consequences of a late submission and letting my group down. Despite having to work last minute, our presentation went well, and we received a good grade.
Taking Initiative in a Group Project
For my Graphic Design 5 course I did a project called design your community where I worked in a group to complete a competitive scan for a client poster. When we were almost done the project there came a point where it wasn’t clear to me what I should have been working on to contribute to the project. I took responsibility and sent a message to my group, asking if there was anything I could work on. Undirected, I took initiative and started working on incorporating the research we had collected into the client presentation. Once the project and presentation were completed, I noticed that our work had not been submitted and took it upon myself to submit our work on behave of the group. Working on this group project demonstrated my skills in being able to take responsibility for not knowing what I should have been working on and making the decision to assign myself a task.
